What are the most attractive renewable energy markets for 2026–27?

India, the US, and Great Britain rank as the most attractive renewable energy markets for investment in 2026–27 in the second edition of Baringa’s Renewables Market Scanning Report.

India leads the ranking, supported by rapid economic growth, industrialisation, urbanisation and electrification. In Northern India, rising electricity demand in states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana, alongside solar development and transmission investment, is creating substantial opportunities for renewable investors.

The US remains one of the largest renewable investment markets globally. Growth is increasingly supported by power demand rather than policy ambition alone. ERCOT and PJM stand out for exceptional data centre and industrial load growth with MISO and SPP benefiting from the same tailwinds but to a lesser degree. CAISO, ISO-NE, and NYISO have more policy-led growth profiles, shaped by transport and heating electrification, but still require significant renewable and storage buildout to meet reliability and decarbonisation objectives.

Great Britain remains a leading renewables investment market, with Clean Power 2030 accelerating wind, solar and other low-carbon deployment. Offshore wind is central to power-sector decarbonisation, while wider electrification is expected to expand electricity demand.

What has changed in the renewable energy market since the first edition of the report?

This year's findings underline an increasingly important theme: there is no longer a single global renewable investment story. Market attractiveness is becoming more differentiated as regional demand growth, policy frameworks, development constraints and profitability drivers diverge. Understanding those differences is becoming as important as understanding the headline ranking itself.

Renewable energy investment continues to accelerate globally, but the nature of the opportunity is becoming increasingly complex. Since the first edition of Baringa's Renewables Market Scanning Report, the market has entered a new phase of maturity. Investors are no longer focused solely on where renewable deployment will be largest, but on which markets can continue to deliver attractive returns as renewable penetration rises, support mechanisms evolve, grid constraints emerge and demand patterns shift.

The second edition builds on our original assessment of renewable investment attractiveness across more than 60 markets and 5 continents, providing a valuable perspective on how investment fundamentals are changing over time. In several markets, strong demand growth, electrification and data centre development are supporting renewable economics.
