In detail:
Zhen-Hui leads our energy market advisory work in Asia Pacific. Currently, this spans Japan, South Korea and Taiwan in North-East Asia, and Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines in South-East Asia. He heads up the team responsible for our proprietary power market modelling across these geographies. Based in Singapore, at the cross-roads of the energy markets activity in Asia, Zhen-Hui has extensive experience working with clients across all of these markets. This means he not only understands how each of the electricity markets work but he is able to draw insights on the regulatory and policy nuances unique to the local context.
Zhen-Hui’s expertise means he can support clients across a range of challenges. A core part of his work is due diligence for power asset transactions. For instance, he and his team recently advised the RATCH Group on the acquisition of the NEXIF portfolio. This was a complex, multi-market portfolio, and our work here harnessed the breadth of Baringa’s APAC market expertise.
Secondly, as investment funds, pension funds, private equity and other investment vehicles look to deploy capital into renewables assets in APAC, Zhen-Hui provides regular market reports for opportunity screening and market monitoring in this region with its strong energy demand and robust economic prospects.
Finally, Zhen-Hui advises clients on off-take arrangements and corporate PPAs, drawing on the market expertise of his team. These are particularly important instruments as energy markets in APAC liberalise and move away from the single-buyer construct.
Before entering the world of consulting, Zhen-Hui worked in various roles in Singapore’s government agencies, including as a trade official and at Singapore’s electricity market regulator. Zhen-Hui believes strongly in putting his client’s interest first, by providing robust, independent advice. And he brings the cultural nous needed to succeed in this dynamic space, honed from international experiences such as living in Germany, China and the USA.
Outside work, Zhen-Hui enjoys running, reading and keeping up with geopolitical developments.
