Background: What is REMA?
The UK Government is currently considering its response to the ‘Review of Electricity Market Arrangements’ (REMA), launched in July 2022. This reform programme is contemplating significant changes across many aspects of the electricity market – including the design of the wholesale and balancing markets, network charges, and the Contracts for Difference (CfDs) and Capacity Market (CM) schemes.
The recent debate has focussed on the ‘zonal vs. national’ question: whether to split the wholesale market into separate bidding zones, but this is only one aspect of a wide-ranging package of potential changes.
What does REMA mean for you?
The Government is expected to respond to the ‘zonal vs. national’ question in summer 2025. Whatever the outcome, the changes will have significant implications for everyone involved in the GB energy sector, including you.
At Baringa, we have spent the last two years working closely with clients, across the GB energy value chain - government, investors, traders and suppliers - helping them understand what REMA could mean for their operations and strategies.
If you are active in the GB power market, we are ready to support you in navigating REMA. Explore some of our insights in the following articles, webinars, and upcoming events, and get in touch to share the challenges you are facing.
