The Special Olympics World Games are an international sporting competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities, attracting as many as 350,000 volunteers and coaches, plus several thousand athletes and their families.
Baringa supported the Department of Energy, an official sponsor of the 2019 Games, and a key player in the region’s energy transition with the design, planning and delivery of the ‘Powering the Special Olympics’ campaign. The initiatives focused on clean energy on the move, sustainable venues and saving water and energy at home, and promoted awareness and educated athletes, their families, spectators and the population in energy and water efficiency and sustainability.
“We have seen emission reductions and energy and water savings materialize during the Games. The true legacy we leave behind however is the awareness of the role everyone can play in making sustainability a reality.” Stephen Haw, Middle East Lead, Baringa
