Baringa, in collaboration with the OGTC, will be hosting a webinar for security and technology leaders and operators of operational technology. We will present key findings of a recent shared study and provide suggestions how the challenges could be addressed.
Key findings of the report:
The digital transformation of the oil and gas industry has contributed to a considerable increase in the volume, complexity and criticality of information that is exchanged across enterprises and supply-chains. With this trend also brings an increased exposure to a multitude of cyber security risks. A quick glance at the tabloids provides a stark reminder of the threats faced by critical infrastructure businesses. Entities across the sector remain targets for threat actors, whether it be nefarious nation-states looking to gain intelligence or exploit a company’s position in a supply chain, or an opportunistic hacker taking instruction from a YouTube video.
At the same time, regulators have recognised the overwhelming and widespread harm caused by cyber loss events and have unleashed strict requirements through the Network and Information Systems Regulation (NIS-R). For the first time, these go beyond critical infrastructure systems and include their dependent processes, systems, people, and suppliers – all through the lens of resilience.
In recognition of the systemic challenges regarding how cyber security is approached and addressed across the sector, the OGTC, working with Baringa, has published an industry study on cyber security. The aim of this study was to develop an industry-view of cyber security, with a particular focus on the common challenges faced by UK O&G businesses and the future industry roadmap to improve security and resilience.
