The adoption of Distributed Energy Resources (DER), such as rooftop photovoltaics, batteries, demand-side response enablement and electric vehicles, continues to grow at a rapid pace. DER are expected to play a significantly larger role in Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) moving forward. The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) engaged Baringa to analyse the value of flexible DER assets within a household.
Our quantitative study (below) tested the potential value available for managed DER across a range of tariffs and technologies, and finds that large storage technologies such as batteries and EVs could generate sufficient value to offset the retail bill entirely.
How this value is realised, and shared between customers and retailers is an area of market innovation, and Baringa is proud to work with clients leading this. For more information, please contact Abhi Nithyanand or Anne Bailey.
