What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

I enjoy wild camping all year round.

In detail:

Alan is a Director within Baringa’s Power and Low Carbon practice, specialising in technical advisory across renewable energy and low-carbon infrastructure. He works closely with utility clients, investors, developers, and public-sector organisations to support confident decision-making across the energy transition.

Alan has nearly 20 years’ experience in the renewable energy industry. He began his career in 2007 as a student work placement at RES, where he developed a strong interest in wind energy and utility-scale renewables that has shaped his career ever since. He went on to hold a range of technical roles working directly for renewable energy developers, building hands-on experience of project development, delivery, and operational challenges, before moving into advisory roles.

He has advised on large-scale energy projects across offshore wind, onshore wind, solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), OFTOs, and multi-GW renewable energy platforms.

Prior to joining Baringa, Alan spent more than six years at Arup, where he advised on tens of gigawatts of renewable energy projects and associated infrastructure. He led and contributed to technical due diligence and business case reviews for investors, lenders, utilities, and developers, combining deep technical understanding with strong commercial insight.

Alan has also supported a number of market-shaping and policy-relevant initiatives, including:

  • The ScotWind offshore wind leasing round with Crown Estate Scotland
  • Levelised cost and economic modelling for the UK Government (DESNZ)
  • Future pathways for offshore wind in the UK (DESNZ) and internationally (World Bank Group / IFC), including emerging markets

At Baringa, Alan focuses on helping clients navigate technical complexity, manage risk, and unlock value across the power and low-carbon sector, supporting investment and delivery in an increasingly dynamic energy system.
