We talk to our client Equitix about driving climate-resilient investment strategies
Join Energy and Resources Director Jim Fitzgerald, as he talks to our client Charlotte Whittlesea from the Sustainability and ESG team at Equitix about a recent project to integrate climate risk and opportunity considerations into Equitix’s investment lifecycle.
“By grounding our approach in what’s material and engaging early with asset teams, we’re not just responding to climate risk - we’re proactively shaping the future.”
- Charlotte Whittlesea, ESG and Sustainability Associate at Equitix
How do you turn climate risk into strategic opportunity?
Equitix is an international investor, developer and fund manager in infrastructure, with £11 billion in assets under management. As expectations around climate risk management grow - from regulators, fund investors and society - Equitix recognised the need to go deeper. Not just to meet disclosure requirements, but to build a forward-looking, materiality-based approach to transition risk and opportunity.
Understanding what matters most
Equitix partnered with Baringa to move from broad portfolio-level insights to deep dives on individual assets. Together, they analysed four investments exposed to carbon-intensive activities, exploring transition drivers like policy, consumer behaviour and technology. The goal? To generate insights that were not only credible, but usable - informing asset management, monitoring, and strategic planning.
Grounded in operational reality
What made the difference was the way the work was done. Baringa brought deep climate expertise, sector-level understanding and high-quality data - but also a collaborative approach. By engaging directly with asset directors, the team ensured that outputs were grounded in the realities of infrastructure investment.
Building capability across the lifecycle
The results are already shaping how Equitix integrates climate risk across the investment lifecycle. From screening and due diligence to transition planning and board-level training, the insights are helping asset directors engage more meaningfully with investee companies and drive climate strategy with confidence.
Shaping best practice for the sector
This isn’t just about compliance. It’s about leadership. Equitix is using this work to build capability, inform future decision-making and set a new standard for responsible investment in infrastructure.
“This work is a great example of how scenario analysis and stakeholder engagement can come together to shape climate strategy. It’s not just about meeting regulatory expectations - it’s about setting industry best practice.”
- Jim Fitzgerald, Director at Baringa
