In detail:

As an industrial engineer, Michael views everything through the lens of optimization. His enthusiasm for solving complex problems drew him to the utilities industry, where energy supply and demand must be perfectly balanced in real time to avoid outages. Michael entered consulting early on in his career, lured by the opportunity to gain a huge breadth of experience at an accelerated pace.  

Now with extensive experience in the energy industry under his belt, Michael is excited about the new challenges emerging. After decades where demand was flat or declining, it’s now growing rapidly due to electrification and energy demand from artificial intelligence. At the same time, providing a reliable energy supply has become harder, as extreme weather events increase in frequency and severity. As these two demands compete for investment more aggressively than ever, Michael has become an expert in integrated system planning, helping utilities optimize their investments to balance capacity and reliability in the face of extreme weather.  

Michael loves coming up with creative solutions, like incentivizing consumer behavior change to manage capacity constraints, freeing up funds for investments in reliability. While Michael’s own focus is on planning, in his role leading our US Utilities practice, as well as Asset Resilience globally, he’s working to extend Baringa’s capabilities around operations, work management, and the intersection of information technology with operational technology. 

What clients love about working with Michael is that he shares their ambitions. Like most people in utilities, Michael believes that reliable electricity is the foundation of today’s society. He’s excellent at articulating how complex solutions anchor back to core values, like keeping the lights on and providing better value for money for households and businesses. 

Alongside his consulting work, Michael sits on the Executive Alumni Board of the Georgia Tech Executive Roundtable, a professional organization to give students exposure  with to high-profile speakers. 

Most of Michael’s spare time is spent with his young family. They love taking their boat out on the lake to do wakesurfing, swimming and other watersports. Michael’s also keen on fitness – especially CrossFit.
