Hector de Courcy-Wheeler is a Senior Manager in Baringa’s Insurance practice, specialising in specialty insurance and underwriting transformation. 

Before joining Baringa in 2022, Hector spent more than six years with a global insurer. He began his career working across operational and claims roles before moving into the London Market as a specialist construction underwriter. He later became a broker relationship manager, working with national and regional brokers across engineering, construction and renewable power. This breadth of experience gives him a practical understanding of how underwriting decisions, operating processes and distribution relationships come together. 

At Baringa, Hector helps insurers modernise their underwriting capabilities and translate strategic ambition into changes that work for underwriters. His experience spans underwriting strategy, process simplification, operating-model design and the implementation and adoption of underwriting workbenches. He has worked across retail, regional and London Market insurers. 

Hector is particularly interested in the point where technology meets underwriting judgement. He believes successful transformation starts with understanding how underwriters really work, then using technology and data to remove friction, strengthen decisions and create a better experience for brokers and clients.
