Turning climate ambition into action across a leading super fund
26 July 2026
How do you turn climate ambition into action when expectations, regulation and scrutiny are all increasing?
With mandatory climate reporting underway, a leading Australian superannuation fund saw an opportunity to go beyond compliance and build a clearer path from climate ambition to action. The goal was not simply to meet disclosure requirements, but to connect climate ambition to business strategy, strengthen accountability across the organisation, and provide a clear foundation for decision-making.
The fund recognised many of the building blocks were already in place. The challenge was bringing them together into a practical, credible plan that could guide action, support reporting obligations, and help navigate a rapidly changing operating environment.
Turning climate ambition into business action
The fund developed a Climate Transition Plan aligned to the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) framework, working with Baringa to turn climate ambition into a structured and actionable roadmap.
Working closely with teams across ESG, Risk, Finance and Strategy, we helped define the plan’s foundations, clarify ownership and accountability, and embed climate considerations into strategic and operational decision-making. The work established the foundations for future climate capability uplift. This includes climate scenario analysis, emissions boundary setting and governance design, creating a clear link between transition planning activities and future disclosure requirements.
Rather than creating a standalone climate-focussed initiative, the focus was on integrating transition planning into the way the organisation already operates and makes decisions.
Creating the confidence to act and deliver
The fund is now better equipped to connect climate risks and opportunities to business and investment decisions, with a clear and credible Climate Transition Plan providing a platform for action. The plan provides greater clarity on governance and accountability, supports coordinated action across the organisation, and creates a strong foundation for high quality climate disclosures.
Crucially, it enables the fund to take a more structured approach to managing the transition to a lower carbon economy while continuing to deliver value for members and support its long term growth ambitions.
