Baringa has opened an office in Rotterdam in the Netherlands as we continue to grow our presence in Europe.

We have been working extensively in the Benelux region for a number of years, supporting clients like Netbeheer NederlandTenneT and Synergrid in the energy and resources sector to navigate the energy transition. We are also advising Dutch clients in the financial services sector such as ING on climate risk and net zero strategy, as well as clients in the FMCG space including Suntory and Reckitt. Opening a Dutch office in Rotterdam forms part of our strategy to further expand our presence in Europe and in the Benelux market.

Our Netherlands office will be led by Marcel Volkerts in our Energy and Resources practice. Marcel’s expertise spans innovation, system integration and digitalisation projects. Over the course of his career, Marcel has led the development of decarbonisation pathways for local authorities and municipalities, created smart grid strategies for utilities and designed and implemented market models for flexibility. Marcel was also one of the lead consultants in defining Third Industrial Revolution roadmaps for the transition to smart cities and regions, including France’s Hauts-de-France, Rotterdam-The Hague and Luxembourg.

Commenting on the office opening, Marcel said:

“Our presence in Rotterdam will allow us to further support Dutch clients with a local presence, backed by our global capability. We’re already working on some of the industry’s toughest challenges here in the Netherlands and look forward to partnering with other organisations in the Dutch energy system at this critical juncture for the sector. For example, our recently confirmed work for RVO, part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, will inform a reference architecture for the energy infrastructure in the Netherlands based on an analysis of the key innovations within the field of digitalisation in the energy sector.”

David Hatcher, lead partner for Baringa’s energy and resources practice, said:

“We are thrilled to be extending our presence in Europe, adding the Netherlands to our growing number of office locations in key centres for energy around the world. The move reflects our commitment to clients in the Netherlands and our recognition of the country’s role as a centre of innovation for green energy and the creation of a hydrogen economy.”
