In detail:
Growing up, Ben was drawn to analytical problems, so a degree in maths was a natural choice. At university he explored his adventurous side, grasping the importance of teamwork in difficult conditions on mountaineering expeditions to Greenland and Nepal. He’s always enjoyed building networks and cultivating relationships, so he chose consulting to allow him to pair his people and problem-solving skills. He joined a large consultancy and ran financial services and capital markets projects for the next 20 years covering processes, technology, risk, regulatory and entity rationalisation projects. Ben joined Baringa as a new challenge in 2018 to grow the capital markets business.
Ben works with clients to find solutions to business goals using change programmes and delivery strategies. As head of the capital markets team his projects range from regulatory remediation to entity rationalisation, business migrations, operating model design and large scale regulatory and risk programmes. The projects he runs are often top priorities, not only for his clients, but also within the broader regulatory environment. They require sensitivity and flexibility. Ben thrives on these projects, using his deep industry knowledge across equities, debt, FX, derivatives and technology to solve problems.
Ben has built long term relationships with clients over his entire career. He works collaboratively with them and uses his experience across financial services to find innovative ways to solve their varied challenges. These could range from responding to regulatory inspections, redesigning processes and teams, designing virtual training programmes for staff in dozens of countries, or measuring and reporting liquidity risk. No matter the challenge, Ben is agile and adaptable and brings together nimble teams for projects. He gathers feedback from stakeholders during projects so that he and his team can constantly improve and iterate.
Ben loves exploring the world, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, with his wife Emma and two “lively” children. He reads as much as he can and recently enjoyed The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. A great fan of quizzes, Ben hosts an annual quiz in the City to raise money for Duchenne UK. To support this cause, he’ll also get on his bike, tackling rides like London to Paris in 24 hours which he’s proud to have complete three times.
