Ilesh joined Baringa in 2010 and leads our Generation and Trading practice. He has 20 years of international experience advising utilities, regulators, government, investors and lenders on strategy, regulatory, investment and commercial issues.
In an era when global power markets are experiencing unprecedented change, new energy technologies are emerging which create more distributed and decentralised energy systems and the business models of utilities and energy investors are needing to adapt to these changes, Ilesh works with his clients to evaluate alternative strategies for entering new markets, launching new products, investing in new technologies and adopting new business models. His work has helped these clients develop, define and successfully implement these strategies.
Recently, he has led work on renewable energy projects, new energy technologies, distributed energy and interconnectors. He has advised on over 20 electricity and gas interconnector projects, over 20 GW of renewable energy, battery and electricity storage projects for renewables developers and power generators across the world. This has included work for renewables energy companies, energy infrastructure investors, power generators and traders in both Europe and increasingly in other regions around the world such as South East Asia, UAE, Africa and South America.
Ilesh has also been an advisor on the liberalisation and privatisation of power and gas markets including on market design and regulation, provided due diligence on power and gas asset transactions and the delivery of energy trading and risk management solutions.
He lives in London with his wife Catriona and their two boys who keep them both fit. He particularly enjoys watching (no longer playing!) cricket and has an enviable collection of energy related art!
