"I’m passionate about transport and infrastructure because they’re such critical enablers for every single government service. Whether it’s improving access to healthcare, raising educational outcomes or helping people find rewarding work, it all starts with a well- functioning transport system – and there are always ways that we can be improving it."

When Richard first ventured into the realm of consulting, fresh out of an engineering job at Rolls Royce, he had every intention for it to be a short stint. Destiny, however, had other plans – and he found a true calling that he’s followed for more than 20 years now.
What’s kept Richard in the field for so long? The variety of his work is a big driver. Every project brings the chance to look at things through a different lens and tackle new challenges. When a client comes to Richard with a problem they just can’t crack, he can’t wait to help them solve it.
Those clients come largely from public sector and government organisations across Europe, the US and the Middle East. In the last decade, Richard has been especially focused on leading large-scale transformation programmes within transport and infrastructure. Moving to Baringa has brought an exciting cross-industry angle to that work. Richard now helps clients link improvements in the transport sector with the energy transition, building climate-resilient infrastructure for both sectors.
A self-confessed transport geek, for Richard there’s no better place to be than at the heart of the action on a project site. He takes a similarly hands-on approach when it comes to helping organisations address complex challenges. Here, it’s all about applying his perspective and focus to complement clients’ capabilities, becoming an extension of their team and giving everyone space for their unique talents and perspectives to shine.
Outside of the office, Richard enjoys keeping his body as active as his mind. He’s a keen triathlete who’s competed in races of all distances, including Ironman triathlons covering more than 140 miles. And he credits consulting with helping him get into the sport. After a colleague on one of his early projects invited Richard for a run, he was hooked. Now, his running kit always comes along in his suitcase on work trips, and he devotes weekends to long cycles and swimming.
