"We spend a huge proportion of our waking hours at work, so I think we should have fun while we’re doing it. That’s why I always try to bring three things to the workplace – a sense of learning, a sense of fun and a sense of empowerment."

Andrew specialises in helping financial institutions to understand the impacts of climate change. He supports them to prepare and refocus their businesses so that they can meet net zero and build resilience. Based in Brisbane, he regularly travels to clients across Australia – spending time in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Andrew’s work with clients falls into four buckets. First is developing policies and embedding frameworks to manage climate risk. Next is developing strategies and targets to support the achievement of net zero (including strategic alignment, integration and portfolio management to realise the opportunities created by the energy transition). There’s also broad environmental, social and governance (ESG) work, as well as supporting clients with climate scenario analysis through Baringa’s partnership with BlackRock.
Andrew’s work builds on his 15+ years of experience in financial services. He was previously at Suncorp, working across banking, insurance, superannuation and wealth management in a variety of roles spanning capital and balance sheet management, financial risk management and climate change and sustainability.
In 2016, Suncorp was among the first 250 organisations to sign up to the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations. As a consequence, Andrew led the climate change risk and opportunity assessments as well as the integration of insights into the business. This has given him hands-on experience of dealing with many of the challenges our clients face as they respond to climate change – including risk, policy development, tools and integration work.
Andrew thoroughly enjoys consulting because he loves helping people and digging into tricky problems. He’s inquisitive by nature, so he likes asking questions, testing and learning quickly, and exploring different opportunities. He’s careful to foster a culture of learning, encourage a positive working environment and support his colleagues. He loves that this ethos is shared by the partners at Baringa, where everyone is encouraged to roll up their sleeves and get involved in delivering work as well as winning it.
Outside work, Andrew enjoys playing golf and Australian rules football. He grew up on the water and has sailed for most of his life. He loves cruising around Moreton Bay and visiting nearby islands. And he’s not afraid of swimming alongside the local sharks.
