I joined Baringa just under a year ago. I was already working as a consultant within the Financial Services sector, but wanted to work in Energy.

Since joining I have worked on 4 projects at 2 different clients. My first role was within the trading entity of a major integrated energy company. I was part of a small team performing a comparative assessment of the business’s system capabilities against their functional requirements, both in the current state and in the context of the longer term strategic direction. This was an intense 2-3 month activity that required spending a few days in both Germany and UK each week.

Currently I am working on a project to design and launch a Geneva based trading desk for a major Russian oil company. Due to the nascent nature of the trading organisation, this has felt extremely entrepreneurial, and has required a rapid development of my understanding of the oil industry – something that is much more complex than perhaps I first thought! It has also been interesting to see just how much work is required to set up a trading entity from scratch.

The thing that I have found has really differentiated my Baringa experience is the effort that folk have made to integrate me into the family – from day one, it has felt very much as if I had been here for years. Additionally the relative absence of hierarchy on projects is apparent and is a pleasant contrast from my previous experiences – this has also acted to increase the level of responsibility to which I am exposed.
