Baringa Partners expands into Central Europe
Within the European Energy markets Germany is one of the most interesting places to be – for international utility companies and also for a specialised management consulting firm like Baringa Partners.
Germany is the basecamp of three of the largest European energy firms - E.ON, RWE and EnBW. The Swedish energy company Vattenfall also has large operations and grids in Germany and there are more than 500 local utility companies and Stadtwerke who serve the small-medium businesses (SMB) and retail customer segments in Germany.
With the European Energy Exchange AG in Leipzig, one of the leading Power and Gas Exchanges has been established in Germany and delivers a stable trading and clearing environment for many Energy trading companies and Investment banks. Regarding the growing European gas market, Germany acts as an important transit country and has the largest gas storage capacities throughout the European community.
With the decision of the German government to exit nuclear technologies a huge transformational challenge has to be tackled by the regulators, investors and the market players to create and implement sustainable structures, a supportive regulatory framework and new market structures for investments in renewable energies as well as open and transparent market structures for trading new asset classes and commodities. The generation and distribution activities have to be re-scoped and the dependencies of the municipal utilities of the large energy producers will change fundamentally. New foreign players will enter the German energy market to start direct investments, initiate joint ventures or trade and optimise their portfolios in the power- and gas markets. The grid infrastructures will play a critical role in this new, Energiewelt’ and have to be extended and shaped to the new requirements.
Germany is and will be a very interesting part of the European energy market and together with the recent developments in the UK energy market a blueprint for many of the other European member-states.

With the integration of the Germany-based management consultancy firm, The Executive Partners Group, Baringa Partners LLP expands into Central Europe. The Baringa management team will be strengthened by the addition of the Managing Director of the Executive Partners Group, Maik Neubauer. Maik’s experience as former COO and Board Member of the European Energy Exchange (EEX) and in several management positions at consulting organisations including IBM Global Services and C1 Group, will enable the development of Baringa’s presence in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Eastern Europe. This move formalises Baringa’s presence in Germany, creates the foundation for sustainable support of already established client relationships as well as future growth across Central and Eastern Europe.
Maik Neubauer has joined the German subsidiary of Baringa Partners LLP as a new Partner on 1st of August and will help to expand the business in the D-A-CH region and in Eastern Europe. The company will initially be represented in the German market with offices in Düsseldorf and Hamburg.
